ARE YOU HAVING FUN WITH FASHION IN THE WORKPLACE? HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON ADDING SPUNK TO YOUR WARDROBE WITHOUT LOSING THAT PROFESSIONAL FLAIR~

The spring of the year is here, if you are one of those people that work in the office and you like to add spunk to your wardrobe, shopping for new looks and fashions for the workplace can be a bit of a challenge. The way you look at work plays a big role in your success in the workplace. Here are some tips on keeping your wardrobe professional without losing your personal style.

1. Go through your employee handbook – Find out if the company you work for has any wardrobe policies in place.

2. Know what’s flattering on you- if you’re working in an office, it is a lot more complicated to find fashions that appeal. Flattering clothing works with your eyes, hair, skin tone, and shape of your body. Look in a mirror in a well-lit room and ask yourself these questions: Does this color brighten or dull my skin tone? How does this color play off my hair color? Does this style of clothing work well with my body shape? Flattering clothing lies flat against your body it does not pull, pinch, or self-divide. Seek styles and sizes that sit flat and quiet against you, even when you are in motion. Flattering clothing creates a silhouette that pleases your eyes.

3. Get inspired by someone you think is a Fashion Icon – For me, with my short height, small frame yet curvy body my Fashion Icons are Halle Berry and Kim Kardashian. They always look flawless, trendy, stylish, and iconic. Since we have similar body shapes, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate the opportunity to play in their closet. I am constantly flipping through magazines, websites, and social media pages to see what these two fashion icons are wearing for more ideas and inspiration when I am putting together my own wardrobe.  Have fun and find a Fashion Icon that works for you.

4. Find your signature item– Whether that’s a skirt, blazer, pair of pants, or shirt find a go-to signature item that you can dress up or down.

5. Be yourself-Wear appropriate business attire, but let your personality and individuality shine through.

6. Don’t over-accessorize– In the workplace overdoing jewels is very distracting adding jewelry is a plus however overdoing it with dangly bangles can be distracting to co-workers and customers since they make noises when your arms move. Accessories are meant to complement your outfit, not overpower it. Remember that your jewelry should not make noise in the workplace.

7. Clean and neat– keep clothing clean and neat. Avoid wrinkles because it shows a lack of professionalism.

8. Send the right message– Your clothing selection is a form of communication, as fashion can make or break a first impression. When choosing what to wear, remember to match the formality and style of those with whom you are meeting. If you’re uncertain, it’s better to dress up than down.

9. Be confident – If you’re unsure if something is appropriate, most likely, it’s not so don’t wear it. Confidence draws success in the workplace. Be sure to pick clothing that makes you feel you are dressed for success.
